So I live in Kenya, Africa, and what really irks me about our society is its view towards the LGBT society. Gayism is illegal in my country, and most people believe that you've been possessed by demons or been bewitched if you're homosexual. I'm so fucking serious. I'll give an example. I went to an all-girls boarding high school, and we had to go to church every Sunday. They would preach about how demons possess people and make them start engaging in things like gayism, and they would pray about it. Also, anyone who was suspected of being lesbian was suspended and those found in the act of kissing or having sex were expelled. The suspected lesbians in our school were considered a 'shame' and prayed against so that those demons wouldn't 'spread'. It was terrible. Parents in Kenya withdraw their kids from schools where there have been cases of homosexuality and make the school punish the 'perpetrators'.
In university, though, because of all the freedom we have away from our parents and the 'adults'as a whole, kids are more free and I see a lot of lesbian couples around. It's harder for gay guys because most people say they are 'disgusting' but tolerate lesbians because it turns them on. See how messed up it is? Of course, there are some who just don't give a fuck (my typpa people :) ) and live through the stigma.
There ARE some gay clubs but they are very low-key and I think they bribe the government.
It just annoys me how judgy my society is, and how ignorant and small-minded they choose to be. Usually I just don't care about the society or tradition or whatever and just live my life, but today I got into a heated argument with some girls from my class and it really annoyed me because despite everyone seeing that I was right, they kept telling me to keep those views to myself because it's a delicate matter and it involves religion. :reallymad:
