Hello,
I have been lurking around this board a few years, but I am still not certain as to what my type is.
I am using this as the questionnaire: http://personalitycafe.com/whats-my-...tionnaire.html
1. What is beauty? What is love?
I find beauty to be very difficult to define, so I don't feel equipped to answer that. Love is placing oneself entirely in the shoes of another person and surrendering oneself to another's experience. It's a true and thorough understanding of why another person feels, acts, or thinks a certain way, coupled with the desire to take these facts and guide the other person into a solution to any problems that may come up.
2. What are your most important values?
Believing in something greater than oneself. My religious beliefs guide everything I do: they are the rock on which I base all my other values. To me, there is nothing sadder than a person who believes in nothing, and who meanders through life.
3. Do you have any sort of spiritual/religious beliefs, and why do you hold (or don't) those beliefs in the first place?
I am a Roman Catholic. I want my life to be rooted in something beautiful and transcendent, and I have found the spirituality of the Church to be a wonderful fit for me.
4. Opinion on war and militaries? What is power to you?
I find war absurd, and I have no interest in the military. Power is taking what one is given in life and combining it with one's own unique personhood in order to make an impression on the world.
5. What have you had long conversations about? What are your interests? Why?
I have long conversations about my and the other person's life experiences, especially with deeper issues about identity, spirituality, love, etc. My primary interests are philosophy and theology; I find that these topics allow me to come to sublime realizations and insights about myself and others.
6. Interested in health/medicine as a conversation topic? Are you focused on your body?I almost never talk about health or medicine. I feel conflicted with my body: in one sense, I find discussion of it superficial, but I also realize the vast importance that our bodies have in understanding ourselves and understanding the world around us.
7. What do you think of daily chores?
I find daily chores mind-numbing, and I try to avoid them as much as possible.
8. Books or films you liked? Recently read/watched or otherwise. Examples welcome.
My favourite film is Apocalypse Now; I find its discussion of war and the power that it can have on our psyches utterly fascinating. I don't find fiction very interesting; I prefer non-fictional religious and philosophical works.
9. What has made you cry? What has made you smile? Why?
I don't cry all that often; being a man probably contributes to this. The most intense cry I ever had was when I was watching a documentary about poverty in the U.S.; one story was of a young girl whose mother had to sell her things, including her pet dog, in order to make ends meet. I found this to be intensely, deeply moving. I smile when I am spending time with my close friends, and when I am with people whose company I enjoy; other than that, I don't smile all that much.
10. Where do you feel: at one with the environment/a sense of belonging?
When I attend liturgical services.
11. What have people seen as your weaknesses? What do you dislike about yourself?
I am forgetful and absentminded about many things, and people have noticed this. I can also come across as somewhat mean and opinionated; I wish people would see that I am more tender-hearted and considerate than they may think.
12. What have people seen as your strengths? What do you like about yourself?
I tend to excel with academic work, so people see me as smart. I am also viewed as quirky and unique with a strong personality, and I enjoy the attention and admiration that I get for this.
13. In what areas of your life would you like help?
I would like help with being more mature: I can get very angry and upset if I have to do something that I dont want to do, and I find it very difficult to get past these feelings and work on what needs to be done.
14. Ever feel stuck in a rut? If yes, describe the causes and your reaction to it.
I fell deeply in love with a woman that did not reciprocate these feelings. I felt intensely angry with myself and conflicted: I would have done nearly anything for her to love me the way I did her, but that I knew that that would likely never happen.
15. What qualities do you most like and dislike in other people? What types do you get along with?
I really like people who are truly and passionately dedicated to something. I dislike when people are superficial and uninterested in learning and growing as human beings. My best friend is either an SEI or an EII (I can easily see either type as fitting him pretty well).
16. How do you feel about romance/sex? What qualities do you want in a partner?
Some romantic things I find silly and superficial, others I find appealing. I greatly enjoy sex, but I dont particularly value it (if that makes any sense). I am attracted to really good listeners; I would want a partner who would really listen to me when we talk.
17. If you were to raise a child, what would be your main concerns, what measures would you take, and why?
I can get very angry fairly easily, so I would be worried about that happening in front of my child. I dont really like children, so I dont know that I would be that attentive to him or her (at least, not until he or she got older).
18. A friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs. What is your inward and outward reaction?
I am very sensitive when it comes to my beliefs, so I am usually upset internally. My outward reaction is to try to get the other person to see things from my point of view.
19. Describe your relationship to society. How do you see people as a whole? What do you consider a prevalent social problem? Name one.
I am often disappointed with society, because I see superficiality and apathy throughout. One problem (and this is especially bad in the Catholic Church) is bureaucracy: it often leaves people behind and it creates cynicism and apathy in people, even very good people. Without it, the world would be a better place.
20. How do you choose your friends and how do you behave around them?
I choose friends based on how interesting I find the other person to be. I try to be as honest with them about what Im thinking and feeling as I can be.
21. How do you behave around strangers?
I'm a little on the quiet side, but I can become very chatty and expressive when provoked.
