VI for Dummies

In the past this forum used to have a handful of really good VI experts and people followed their VI skills as a standard to adhere to and use it as a reference point.

Nowadays, most of the VI experts have left the forum. We mostly have beginners that know they're not good at VI like myself, overconfident newbies that VI people without any knowledge of VI and perhaps a few experts that don't VI much anymore for whatever reason.

Here is a good beginner's guide to VI for those that know nothing about VI:

Trust me, I belong in the beginner's group too, which is why I rarely VI despite knowing about Socionics for so long, but perhaps those that have the desire to VI others can actually learn how to do it.

Even though some people can be naturally better at VI than others because of better spatial and facial recognition, anyone can learn it if they actually put in the effort and time to learn about how it works.

I found a pretty neat tool for VI. It turns out I underestimated my VI skills and I got some right on my first try just by intuitive impressions I got. I highly recommend this tool for those who want to learn VI and want to see how good their skills actually are:

You certainly won't master VI like this, but it will hopefully lead to an actual understanding of VI and not just doing the newbie mistake of VIing people by non-Socionics genetic features rather than the overall impression from their facial expressions and the like.

Finally, if you have the discipline and time, you can wade through a significant amount of images from VI experts on their conclusions of celebrity's types:

As for those who don't believe VI works or exists. I would not rule out that possibility and you may be right. I tend to lean towards the idea that VI's validity rests upon specific facial expressions and facial features. Expanding that notion to include irrelevant facial expressions and genetic facial features is bunk VI of course.

So if you're in the "you look exactly like X person I know" VI group then perhaps it wouldn't hurt to expand your knowledge of VI and improve your skills enough to type people correctly. ;)
