I am approaching you with a big axe

Hello! Joined because I'm addicted to learning about typology. Figured this place would be another great info resource. The deeper I go, the more I see I have a lot to learn. The enneagram is what has captured my interest the most. I'm familiar with mbti, and am fairly new to socionics. Hopefully I'll gain enough knowledge to participate in discussions, but I'll probably stay lurking for a while.

All that comes to mind to share is that I recently learned what fatal familial insomnia is. It's a rare genetic degenerative brain disorder where an individual's insomnia progressively gets worse until death occurs within a few months to a few years (average survival time is 18 months from onset of symptoms). It often occurs in middle age. Besides insomnia, symptoms include paranoia, panic attacks, hallucinations, dementia, and weight loss.

The video's description provides a better overview of what it is.
I came across this disease when looking up info on sleep and dreams. Thought it was interesting.

This is my favorite song right now. Feel free to recommend something if you comment. I love music.

Well, that's all I want to share. See you around *

Member Questionnaire 1 (shanestarr006)
What is beauty? What is love?
aesthetic beauty is that which is pleasing and fulfilling to the eye, much like food and water is refreshing to the body, sex to desire, and acheivement to one's goals. Love is the intention of the consciousness to its ultimate concerns that come in many 'flavors'; care for another person (romantic or family-related, like one's parents or children or siblings) and objects of one's desire, whether it be cars, jewelry, clothing, even people.
What are your most important values?
aesthetic beauty is very high, perhaps the highest on my list. I take great care to match my clothes, have my working and home environment look attractive (and with matching color palettes), and keeping my car nice and polished and clean. Health is very high on list; it is true that a physically healthy stray dog is happier than an ailing king. I believe life itself is the ultimate gift, from 'God,' and our task (our gift back in appreciation) is to find our purpose and fulfill it AND ENJOY IT!! to the best of our abilities. I love being active and fit, I walk 20 miles a day, jump in an ice-cold pool every morning, and work out daily, and watch my diet. As a highschool person and young adult, I was the national champion in surfing, and was a professional athlete (surfer) before trading that life in for a college experience. I have three boys (18, 17, and 6- I live with the 6 year old and he IS my pride and joy!)
Do you have any sort of spiritual/religious beliefs, and why do you hold (or don't) those beliefs in the first place?
Yes, I believe in some entity greater than ourselves. It makes more sense to believe there are realities beyond our physical and mental cognition (like mathematics to ants) governing the laws of the universe and the operations (like evolution, weather) on this planet, as well as involvement in our personal matters and fortunes, than to believe it's all some cosmic accident. I studied philosophy and religion in college, and have my masters degree from Yale University in the philosphy of religion. I'm well aquainted with all the arguments for and against God's existence, and although some of my favorite philosophers were atheists (Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Sartre), along with my strong dislike of church, I think it takes more faith to believe that simple blind and dumb particles randomly (magically) combined to create chemicals, and so on and so forth to result in our species. Even the atheists like Dawkins and Hawking believe in a force behind it all; they just prefer to give it another name: Gravity (with a capital G).
Opinion on war and militaries? What is power to you?
My father was an avid reader of WWII stories and history. It's entertaining to me; reading about the battle of Stalingrad helps me to feel more cozy and comfortable in my own life and struggles, and I find war history fascinating... but as for power I have no desire to control others. I do, however STRONGLY hold fast to my own autonomy and freedom. I HATE being controlled, or told what to do. At my current job (real estate, apartment leasing, like on the HGTV show "Househunters International") this comes in the form of necessary red tape and paperwork, which I detest. I just want to make deals and get on with it, not get bogged down in some blind supervisor's pet project that I already know is futile.
What have you had long conversations about? What are your interests? Why?
although I tend to intiate conversation, I am flexible in going with the flow of the conversation, and will go wherever it takes me... for a short while. My conversations usually evolve and settle into some sort of self-improvement advice or sharing (how walking 20 miles a day is helping me, or experiences in extricating one's self from a bad romantic relationship, or how to beat addiction).
Interested in health/medicine as a conversation topic? Are you focused on your body?
I don't go to the doctor, and try to avoid hospitals. That being said, I care for my health as a top priority; I'd rather do it on my own terms than hear some doctor tell me what I need. I like to look and feel good, and care very much about my appearance and overall health.
What do you think of daily chores?
I love the feeling of accomplishment when I complete my chores... but I struggle with doing them.
Books or films you liked? Recently read/watched or otherwise. Examples welcome.
I just finished the entire collection of Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 novels, and own all the movies. Like many men (at least I'm comfortable enough in my own skin to admit it) I would love to be like this guy!! I enjoy some 1960's shows, like the Twilight Zone, and Star Trek (including the new ones), all in that as works of art, these shows invite us to rethink our own attitudes and actions in the here & now. I also still dabble in philosophy, and have been reading MBTI and Socionics books in attempts to more precisely know my type. In MBTI it seems clear that I am an ESTP, but in Socionics I'm not so sure; I could be an SLE?... but they seem more power-driven over others, like a MBTI ENTJ, than me.
What has made you cry? What has made you smile? Why?
memories of my childhood, both happy and sad, and the loss of innocence (pre-puberty) makes me sad and nostalgic, and consequently I rarely allow myself to go there, preferring to focus on the here and now. While all my friends (and my own brother) are posting things on Facebook about events and accomplishments 20 years ago, I'm focused on NOT on my past surfing or college achievements, but on what I'm achieving RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW, like getting four leases in one day (nobody does that!).
Where do you feel: at one with the environment/a sense of belonging?
When I feel physically well and alive and healthy during a hike, or out in the ocean, or in a aesthetically pleasing home or work environment, in my element.
What have people seen as your weaknesses? What do you dislike about yourself?
Until this year, I had neve in my adult like been caught up in taxes, I've had some streaks of hedonistic lifestyle (cocaine & alcohol) that have hurt me financially (luckily not my health or legal issues) and generally I can act like a big kid, not being mindful enough of the consequences of my actions. I'm like the grasshopper who didn't save for the winter... At my best I feel capable of anything, but now in my forties I realize I've wasted a lot of time in my life. My focus and enjoyment and maximizing my pleasure in the present moment has kept me from really learning the lessons of my past mistakes, and has put my future at risk.
What have people seen as your strengths? What do you like about yourself?
I'm excellent in a crisis; I'm strong and healthy and athletic; I'm good-looking, I have nice clothes and a beautiful nice car. I'm creative, I adjust well, I never get anxiety nor do I feel depressed, I don't need any medications, I'm happy without drugs or alcohol, I feel very organized in my life right now. I'm doing better now than I ever have.
In what areas of your life would you like help?
I want to know my Socionics type!! Really, getting acclimated with this system should help me further my personal and professional development, and help me manage these relationships more successfully in my journey of lifelong learning and self-improvement.
Ever feel stuck in a rut? If yes, describe the causes and your reaction to it.
Getting behind on crap legislative things; paperwork, taxes, bills, dentist checkups, that sort of thing. I feel burdened by things like this.
What qualities do you most like and dislike in other people? What types do you get along with?
I like people who "have it together." I hate people (personally AND in professional settings) who partake in double-standards "I get to do this but you are in trouble if you do the same thing." I get along with quiet but curious people. Malleable people, who like to go with the flow, and are agreeable; these are the types of people I like to be around.
How do you feel about romance/sex? What qualities do you want in a partner?
I love romance and sex, but with my attention on myself and my real estate work I haven't had much time for it lately (especially compared with my life as a whole- I've been with a lot of women). I prefer the qualities I listed above; I like someone who is stable, who can take care of the legislative things in life I'm not so good or keen at doing.
If you were to raise a child, what would be your main concerns, what measures would you take, and why?
I want my children to be strong, self-sufficient, and happy. My main concerns are drugs, loser mentality, and bad relationships ruining their lives. All I can do is lead by example and give advice when I can or will be heard. I'd like them to be able to avoid the mistakes I've made....
A friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs. What is your inward and outward reaction?
I try to reaso with them (if I know I'm right) to show where my belief is "better." If they listen, great, if not, fine; but if they attack my beliefs then I'll try to be civil and focus on the issue (not the person) but ultimately if the disagreement persists I grow frustrated and feel like I'm wasting my time and leave the conversation.
Describe your relationship to society. How do you see people as a whole? What do you consider a prevalent social problem? Name one.
Society is just a mass of people I have to deal with and navagate through to do what I want to do. From a Gods-eye (even from a helecopter) perspective the freeways look like ant-trails... a big social problem.. I tend to worry about myself more than them.. I guess I'll say homelessness. In Los Angeles it's difficult to take a walk without running into several homeless people. We need to do something about it, but that's for the government "the they" to figure out.
How do you choose your friends and how do you behave around them?
I am friendly with a lot of people, but given my family (my 6 year old) and working 6 days a week, I seem somewhat of a loner in this period of my life; it's been over a year since I did anything with a friend (besides holday work parties). I tend to act the same at work as I do at home, which I like about myself but gets me into trouble sometimes. I work hard and play hard when I play... I can work 6days a week because I'm productive and I make it fun.
How do you behave around strangers?
I'm friendly towards strangers; ultimately we're all strangers to one-another!

Is it true that only ~2.2% of the adult population in the U.S.A. can score 130 or higher on WAIS tests? If not, what are the real percentiles?

I'm asking because it seems to me like so many more people than ~2.2% of the U.S.A. adult population scored 130 or higher on a professionally given adult IQ test.

What do you think they are for
1. psychiatric nurses?
2. emergency room nurses?
3. detention officers/prison guards?

I was thinking psychiatric nurses would have an average verbal IQ (vocabulary, similarities which is abstract verbal reasoning) of 122 and perceptual reasoning (matrix reasoning like ravens tests, visual puzzles, block design) index score of 135, emergency room nurses about the same and detention/correction/prison officers average verbal iq about 115 and perceptual reasoning score of about 128. Those are all occupations that tap more into visual awareness, fine motor coordination and speed and quick thinking, perceptual/nonverbal reasoning and visual memory than into language abilities.

What do you study or do for a living? How did you come to do that? What do you like or dislike about it?

I work in a supermarket. I was looking for a job in disappointment (IT specialist after High School) but I did not find. To get a job I would have to work a minimum of 2 years in computer science for such requirements, which deletes chance on work new IT specialists immediately after school. I like my job. Is a bit too monotonous (Sometimes time flies slowly), every day looks the same, but I value very much that nobody rushes me one's own work style, nobody to hurry me and work is stress-free, although sometimes (Ralery) there are stressful moments.

What are your values, and why?

I care the most on Freedom, independence from other influences on me, peace of mind (I am an extreme loner by choice, I like peace and quiet) and my girlfriend with whom I am in very good and close relationship. I don't care about the rest. Values sound too sublime and romantic to me.... Love, Dedication, Loyality, Justice this sound ridiculously.... These are empty words often without coverage in practice.... So I don't mention these slogans.... I'm rather neutral morally. I don't have the pressure to be very good and good-natured but inversely too. I like to help with something, but only if this is my good colleague and if i have the desire and time. And I try to be enough nice (within normal limits) but too without exaggeration.

What else do you do on a daily basis? What are your interests and hobbies? Why do you do them?

I rest, laze, spend my free days passively. Mainly Developing knowledge in the field of my interest. I listening to music and playing video games. Little Less often from deepening knowledge, playing games and listening music i exercise physical strength. I often meet with a girlfrend. Sometimes I going to some good food at a restaurant or take a walk around the area with headphones on ears. Sometimes a im going to concert (i'm being fan of Extreme Metal and [Agressive] Punk music). I very like It but there are few such concerts. My main interests are military history (technical and specification details) and modern military technology. If I will enough time I want to go to studies in this field. I am also very interested in politics. A little interested in psychology, music (theory of genres) and martial arts.

Describe your relations with family and friends. What do you like and dislike about them?

I appreciate that I can talk to my best friends about any topic without embarrassment. Political ?? No problem. Religion ?? No problem. Private subjects ?? No problem. Sometimes laugh and joke. Little Similar with my mother. But she is a little too authoritative and too nervous for me ... She doesn't tolerate disagreeing with her. Other disadvantages do not bother me.

What do you look for in friends? In romantic relationships?

With friends - as in the previous question. In romantic relationships, good mutual understanding and a very good and close relationship to reduce unnecessary conflicts. I want my girlfriend to feel very comfortable with me (physically and mentally).

What conflicts have you encountered recently with other people? Why did they happen? Which kinds seem to happen on a regular basis?

Recently, a colleague took my work tool in work and I needed it after I took it from the shelf. I went to him and said that in 10 minutes I have to have them. I came back in 10 minutes and told him that he was mine and he said that he would not have something like that and I also say that I also needand I added that it was not my problem and that I took it first from shelf. I took them from him. The colleague was offended for a while, next day I helped him (he needed help in pushing the table) and anger passed him.

How would your friends describe you?

Honest, Intelligent, Logical, Tolerant, Good listener, Resourceful, Skeptical, Analytical, Crytical, Cool, Realistic, Silent, Conciliatory, Lazy, Stubborn, Withdrawn, Avoiding and Passive.

What do people generally see as your strengths? What do you like about yourself?

People from work - Professional and competent. My frends - Independence, no worries (little carefree), sense, logic and inteligence. Yeah me too.

What are your weaknesses? What criticism do you often face from others? What do you dislike about yourself?

People from work - Quiet, pensive, not involved in relationships at work and with poor social skills. My frends - Little too Lazy, too inert, sometimes not too exciting and too carefree. To Me - Once I get angry and stress it is hard for me to control my anger and stress. Although I rarely gets upset and stressed.

In what areas of life can you manage well on your own? In what areas of your life would you like help?

Really I dont know....

What things do you dislike doing? What things do you enjoy more than others?

I dont like responsibilities.... I like to do what I want without restrictions.

What goals, aspirations, or plans do you have for the future? How did you come to have them?

I am not ambitious.... Maybe sometime going to study military technologies .... I have no specific plans for the future. We will see what will happen, there are many alternatives and ideas.

If you had enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life without working, what would you do with your time?

I would probably I would collect firearms, travel around the exotic corners of the world, i would enjoy life (e.g every day going to good restaurant) and develop my interests (e.g more books and other sources)....

What traits do you find endearing that others might dislike? What traits are considered positive/neutral by others but tend to annoy you?

Coaching really irritates me.... I like to do what I want in anytime. I very don't like pushing me to do something.... Mainly coercion.... Dificult goals.... I suspect many people do it often only to increase their low self-esteem....

What kinds of things do you do to manage and/or beautify your environment (your room, your house, etc.)? What do you think of daily chores?

I don't like it.... Sometimes clean up... Nothing else.

How do you behave around strangers?

With distance.

How do you react to conflict? What do you do if somebody insults or attacks you?

Differently.... If he are right to i give it to him and if not, I do the same.

What is one common misconception that people have about things? Explain why it is wrong.

Mainly other motivations and characters ??

What did you do last Friday?

I was repairing the laptop for my girlfrend.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Really i dont know....

What is something you regret?

Same. What happened is already past.... I dont think about this....

Who do you admire, and why?

Rational and pragmatic people who do not fall into fanaticism. Objective people who can think independently.

What's been on your mind? Has anything been worrying or concerning you? What problems have you encountered lately?

I try to reduce stress and worries to zero

What are your religious or spiritual beliefs and why do you hold them?

Agnosticism and ignosticism is closest to me. It is not possible to verify whether God exists or not.... In addition, I think it is very unlikely .... Why did he choose our planet and Why should Yahweh be the one true god??? There are so many other religions in the world.... In addition, the descriptions from the Bible contradict with facts.

What are your political beliefs, and why? To what extent do you care about politics?

First of all, I am follower from the free market, low taxes, and generally capitalism. Lack of interference government in the market and people's lives. The state must intervene only in case of breaking the law ... I am alsoopponent of collectivization .... That the data of the social environment are treated better than individuals ... It's often available in socialist systems... We need effective and pragmatic politicians who can improve life somehow financially. E.G reducing taxes. This is even more so because the money flowing into the budget goes to stupidity.
Instead restrain this and spend only of basic on things. I am not committed to government because I think he treats me badly... And I'm not going to be his slave. I Think i'm a little conservative.... Im being opponent of acceptance Arab immigrants. It's a different culture .... Generally, they don't want to work (statistics show it), and sometimes some fanatics even kill in the name of god .... Lots of rapes and terrorist attacks that were not in Europe before ....
And I think, for example, that you can't change the sex yourself .... Sorry, but gender is only biologically determined .... I tolerate homosexuals, but I don't like the sexualization of society.... These are topics for private discussions.... The same applies to deeds.

Would you ever be interested in starting a business? Why or why not? What role would you play in it? What kind of business would it be?

Maybe. I would sell things. I think so.

What kind of work environment do you prefer? What do you look for in a job?

What I currently have.

What is or was your favorite school subject and why?

History. Because it shows important events from around the world.

How do you approach responsibility? What do you tend to expect of others?

I try to be loyal and help. I expect the same from the other side.

Where did you go on your most recent vacation? What did you do there? How did you like it and why?

Sightseeing. It was ok.

What were you like as a kid? How have you changed since you were a child?

I have changed a lot. I was more concerned, more stressed and more sensitive(Now i am completely not sensitive).

What was your high school experience like?

Wrong. The worst period in my life .... Just trouble. Father alcoholic, problems with several peers, anxiety and depression. But luckily it's gone.

Talk about a significant event from your life.

I told a lot. I don't know what more ...

Do you like kids? Why or why not?

I don't like.... I may like to play with them, but I am irritated by probably hyperactive children, and most of them are.

If you were to raise a child, what would be your main concerns, what measures would you take, and why?

Difficult question. I would probably teach life resourcefulness .... I wasn't taught it from parents and I had a problem, but I finally succeeded. Difficult case...

Ever feel stuck in a rut? If yes, describe the causes and your reaction to it.

This happens all the time. Even I like it, sometimes it makes a monotonous break and I get into bad mental states, but this is rare.

How do you see other people as a whole? What do you consider a prevalent social problem? Name one.

It can't be replaced. This question is too general for me. Maybe people they can't enjoy what they have ?? And the pursuit of no one knows what without result.

What do you do if you're not getting what you want? What approach do you use?

Usually i thing... such a life ... Although sometimes I can be frustrated. If I really cared.

Are you comfortable taking leadership roles? In what areas? Why or why not?

If I know that nobody will oppose me, I very like to command. But to some extent because I do not want too much limit the freedom of other people.

How often do you get angry? What kinds of things make you angry?

Rarely. Generally for more serious things.

What is the best thing that happened to you during the past week?

Repairing a broken laptop. He started acting.

What is the worst thing that happened to you during the past week?

A stressful situation at work.

What is the purpose of life? What do you find personally meaningful in life?

Do what you want and like to do. Without forcing yourself.

What is the most interesting place you have been, and why?

Museum of Armored Weapons.

How do you dress or manage your appearance?

I don't care about myself. I wear black tracksuits or military clothes.

Do you like surprises?

If they don't ruin my plan for another lazy day, then yes.

Hello there !

I'm a french INFP (in MBTI) girl. I discovered recently the socionics, and I want to learn more about it. I don't know my type in this typology yet. I have some ideas, but it's not clear yet. I'm sure you will help me to figure it out :content:

What can I say about myself ? Hum well, I love spending time with my boyfriend and closed ones, daydreaming, being introspective, shows TV, book, movies (fantasy, dramas, Disney...), psychology, mythology, history, arts, unicorns, hedgehogs, owls and red pandas XD Oh, and I'm an Hufflepuff (yes yes, it's important to know ha ha !) Your quintessential INFP I guess !

Hope to see you soon in the forum, bye ! ;)

Narcissists: Engage or Ignore?

$

Do you believe narcissists should be engaged as if they were in touch with reality, or should they be ignored? On the one hand, I believe we should treat people in the best way possible rather than damning them to a complete lack of regular interaction, but on the other, it seems like there's really a point of no return, at least as long as they show no self-awareness of any kind. Also, before that point is reached, it seems like people usually say and do things they define themselves by for good or bad. I vote Ignore, at least after you know they're a narcissist. If they show genuine self-awareness, you can Engage again, but you should never be the one to initiate that since there are much better people out there than people who may or may not sincerely or insincerely become reasonably mature if prodded. What do you think?

Please stop giving people as many free things with your social safety net so you won't attract the worst immigrants who trash the place. All the Middle Eastern people in countries like America and Germany who aren't afraid of being called Nazis by the rest of the world because that's the default I've met are great, while your lax welfare laws attract people who will specifically cheat it. The problem isn't that those immigrants won't integrate, because frankly those people are criminals who won't integrate anywhere except the ground, even in their home countries (notice they're not there either? If they were, they'd probably be smashing windows there.) Thanks!
